One Last Verse

Today made a break from summer,
Thumbed its nose with roses
And mellow airs,
Dared autumn to take itself
Less seriously.

We scurried from work
Into balmy breezes,
Decelerated into strolls,
Growing softer at the edges,
Leisurely in this pledge
To hold against the days to come.
